Following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premiership season, it will return to normal service in Scotland.
Brendan Rodgers held a cigar after Celtic won their 55th title, including their fourth in a row and 14th in the last 15 seasons. Rangers’ sole cheers were for their recent Glasgow derby victories over Celtic, which came at Ibrox and Parkhead after the turn of the year.
Aside from that, Celtic dominated their opponents, winning the championship by 17 points despite losing two derby matches.
It demonstrates the mental fortitude of those wearing green and white, but what happens next season?
Kris Boyd on whether Rangers can challenge Celtic for the Premiership title next season
Kris Boyd, a Sky Sports analyst, has witnessed Celtic’s dominance this season.
Speaking on The Warm Up, the former striker discussed Rangers’ triumphs over Celtic this season and how it isn’t the club’s issue.
Boyd believes Rangers can mount a challenge next season after failing to match Scotland’s most successful club this season.
“I think Rangers can challenge next season,” said Boyd. “Against Celtic, they have shown that they can compete again.
“Let’s be realistic, even if Rangers didn’t sign any players, they should be beating the rest. The wage budget and bill must be sky-high compared to the rest. They have found a level against Celtic where they can get performances and results.
“Whether it’s the players’ attitude, I don’t know. Whether they think they are better than what they are, I don’t know.”
Chris Sutton’s ‘pathetic’ jibe at Rangers after Celtic win title
Chris Sutton has stated that a lot might happen this summer, from who will be Rangers’ next manager to who will leave and join for the champions, all of which could and will have an impact on next season.
But, in his customary style, Sutton couldn’t help but throw some jabs at Rangers, especially their ‘pathetic’ so-called title challenge this season.
However, based on the ‘rule of averages’, Sutton believes that things will change sooner rather than later in terms of a title challenge.
“17 points the gap, that’s ridiculous, that’s a scandal,” said Sutton. “Of course, the gap can be cut. Can they challenge?
“Many things can happen in the summer. We don’t know. What’s going to happen at Rangers? We don’t know who Celtic may lose, in terms of playing personnel and who they are going to bring in.
“There will be a challenge. It’s a law of averages. There will be a challenge, eventually, from them.
“This last season was one of the most pathetic challenges from Rangers – Rangers need to, somehow, get back to running Celtic closer. I think they can, and they should do.”
