Newcastle will be hungry for victory as they chew over a meeting with the Toffees this Sunday.

The Magpies head into the crucial encounter in a favourable fourth position, but only one point separates them and seventh-place Nottingham Forest.

Position Team Played Points
3rd Manchester City 37 68
4th Newcastle United 37 66
5th Chelsea 37 66
6th Aston Villa 37 66
7th Nottingham Forest 37 65

Eddie Howe’s team’s goal is clear: finish in the top five and they will play in the Champions League next season.

However, one guy will be looking to ruin Newcastle’s European aspirations this weekend.

Everton custodian Jordan Pickford, a lifelong Sunderland fan, will do everything he can to stop the Magpies.

England’s number one had already played in this game and made a sensation as he celebrated emphatically in front of the Newcastle fans.

Ashley Young explained on talkSPORT (22 May) why the Goodison team must defeat Howe’s side.

Young said: “It would be good if [Pickford], with his Sunderland heritage, could prevent Newcastle from qualifying for the Champions League.

“That’d make [my final game] even better.”

Newcastle favourites, but Moyes can spring shock

Newcastle will undoubtedly go into the match as favourites, given how much it means to them.

Not only that, but the North East club has a good squad and may welcome back Alexander Isak to the starting lineup.

However, you should not underestimate Everton.

Moyes has transformed the Toffees into a different beast, one capable of competing with the league’s top teams.

The 62-year-old has already defeated Forest and earned a point against champions Liverpool.

As Newcastle prepares for Europe, Pickford and his teammates will be determined to wreck their day.
