Sunderland news: Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele sends a message to the Black Cats ahead of their Championship play-off final against Sheffield United.
Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele has wished Sunderland good luck ahead of their Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium today. Dembele is pals with Black Cats owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, and the two were photographed sitting close to one other during a Championship match against today’s opponents at the Stadium of Light in March 2023.
The Guardian reported on his bond with Dembele and former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi. Sunderland are preparing for the biggest game of Louis-Dreyfus’ tenure, with only 90 minutes till they return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Dembele, who is having a fantastic season with Champions League finalists PSG, has wished the Black Cats well. Dembele commented on a video provided to Sunderland’s Instagram account, saying, “Good luck today!” Great job this season; now it’s time to take the next step and catch up with Newcastle United. “Best wishes at Wembley.”
He also shared Sunderland’s video on his Instagram story, which will be watched by his 15 million followers. After a dramatic late finish to their semi-final against Coventry City, the Black Cats sealed their place at Wembley Stadium.
Dan Ballard scored a late header to give Regis Le Bris’ team a 3-2 aggregate victory in Sunderland’s 48th League game of the season. They now face a Blades team looking for an instant return to the Championship via the play-offs after being in contention for automatic promotion for nearly the whole season.
Sunderland had also been contending for a top-two berth, but their form dipped as the season came to a close, with the focus being on maintaining momentum for the play-offs. “We went through some difficult times,” Le Bris remarked. “We have not won handily this season.
“We’ve suffered and were ready for another tough game, “The ambition and desire. “After 48 games we deserve to be here. “We can talk about talent and tactics but one of the strongest qualities of this group is mindset.
“The way they are connected and how they can manage different emotion. “We deserve this fixture. “It’s not always a question of age, it’s a question of connection with the path. “You can be 17 and ready or 30 and have a problem to manage the emotions.
