Newcastle United has long been interested in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.
Brentford are willing to selling Bryan Mbeumo, with Newcastle United reportedly’ready’ to make a move.
Newcastle will lose sports director Paul Mitchell at the end of June, but this is unlikely to have an influence on their transfer ambitions, as much groundwork has already been done in terms of identifying targets.
Head coach Eddie Howe is expecting a busy summer as he attempts to enhance his team ahead of a return to the Champions League, and he has warned the club to act swiftly or risk missing out on key targets.
This is the first time Newcastle has been able to significantly reinforce the team since the summer of 2023, when Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limited its options.
Newcastle United ready to move for Bryan Mbeumo
One of the positions Howe is looking to improve is right striker, with Jacob Murphy, who had a fantastic season with nine goals and 14 assists, the only acknowledged out-and-out option after Miguel Almiron was sold to Atlanta United in January.
Newcastle are major fans of Mbeumo, with just Mohammed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22) scoring more than the Cameroonian in the Premier League last season.
According to The Telegraph, Howe’s team is “ready” to make their initial bid for the 25-year-old.
Thomas Frank makes Bryan Mbeumo admission
Thomas Frank has already stated that Brentford is a selling club, but will only accept a bid for Mbeumo at the correct price. According to Sky Sports, Mbeumo is worth £60 million, and Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping an eye out.
“I’m the head coach, and I want my best players to stay forever,” Frank told Sky Sports earlier this month. “I know Bryan is quite pleased here at Brentford; he’s thriving, performing well, and playing brilliantly. What will happen in the future? I do not know.
“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.
“So, of course, if the right price – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it. But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”
Can Newcastle United afford Bryan Mbeumo?
“We’ve not been afraid historically, if the money is there, to sign a big player, i.e. Alex [Isak],” Howe told NewcastleWorld earlier this month.
“For me, that was big money at the time – still is big money in anyone’s world – but we felt he was the right player to spend that money on, so I’m more than happy to do that if that’s the right thing and it has the biggest effect for the team and for the squad.
“But I don’t think I can give you a clear answer now on what direction we will go because we don’t know everything that we need to know.”
