“Nuance different,” Jamie Carragher’s shocking response to Everton footage on Sky Sports

According to Jamie Carragher, Everton’s approach to games has been more sophisticated under David Moyes than under Sean Dyche.

The veteran defender believes that, while the Toffees continue to play direct football, they have more quality rather than aimless long balls.

Carragher used James Tarkowski’s assist for Beto in the 4-0 win over Leicester City at Goodison Park on February 1 as an illustration of how things have altered under the Scotsman.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (3 February), the former defender said: “When you talk about things that are slightly different, remember there was a clip where Tarkowski had the ball away at Bournemouth and just played an aimless long ball into the front man.”

“He sees Beto [against Leicester]. But this time, it’s not a long ball to the chest or his head; it’s actually a nice ball down the side. They’re looking forward. They’re being direct but with more quality. So that’s the bit of nuance different with Moyes.”

The Goodison faithful were dissatisfied with their style of play under Dyche and wanted the former Burnley manager to leave long before his dismissal.

While Moyes’ appointment wasn’t particularly spectacular from a neutral standpoint, most Toffees fans were overjoyed with his return.

The decision to appoint the 61-year-old has certainly paid off, with Liverpool nine points ahead of 18th-place Leicester.

Everton were dangerously close to relegation when Dyche was in charge, but the atmosphere at Goodison Park has altered in recent weeks, and there is renewed confidence that they can relocate to Bramley-Moore Dock with their Premier League status intact.

Dyche was unable to get the best out of the Blues’ attack, which Moyes had little trouble with in his early days.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto appear more confident under the Scottish management, as evidenced by their recent performances.

Since his perhaps unfortunate departure from West Ham United, the veteran head coach has had a significant impact in the English Premier League.
