Everton are expected to undergo significant changes this summer in preparation for next season’s Premier League campaign.
The Toffees bid farewell to Goodison Park with a 2-0 victory over Southampton on the penultimate day of the season, with their new Bramley-Moore stadium set to welcome the club next season.
The changes in their surroundings have been matched by recent adjustments behind the scenes. The Friedkin Group is preparing to manage their first transfer window since acquiring control of the Merseysiders in December.
They are anticipated to give David Moyes a substantial budget to work with over the summer, allowing the Scotsman to take the team to the next level after transforming their fortunes in the second part of the season.
Everton agree fee for Sheffield Wednesday youngster
According to The Star (4 June), the Toffees are close to completing a deal for Sheffield Wednesday’s highly rated teenager Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri.
Following the takeover, money is expected to be more readily available to Moyes and the recruitment department, and while he will undoubtedly have several areas where he wants to improve the squad, the club will understandably be looking ahead.
They are one of three Premier League clubs, along with Manchester City and Chelsea, to have met the Owls’ £1.5 million value for the 15-year-old, with more add-ons expected.
Wednesday are once again facing financial difficulties, and it is believed that chairman Dejphon Chansiri is eager to guarantee the club receives a substantial amount up front, with the possibility of that figure increasing over time.
Cadamarteri recently led the U18s Professional Development League in goals scored, with 24. He has also represented England and Scotland at the juvenile level.
The frontman has long been regarded as an excellent prospect in South Yorkshire, and now that a sum has been agreed upon with numerous teams, the youngster will be free to choose where he wants to play.
Everton should take the opportunity to invest in youth
Now that Moyes may have a little more money to play with following Farhad Moshiri’s departure, it could be the ideal time for the club to try to focus more on developing the next generation of players.
Jake O’Brien has emerged as an important component of Moyes’ plans in recent months, and Nathan Patterson has previously demonstrated great promise when given Premier League appearances.
With players like Harrison Armstrong, who has already played in the first team and impressed on loan at Derby County last season, there is plenty of reason to believe the future of L3 is bright.
If the club wins the competition for Cadamarteri’s services, he will be another player who has the potential to break into the first squad in the future.
Everton has occasionally overspent and wasted money in recent years. By focussing on younger players, they should be able to develop a nucleus of potential talent with high resale value.
