Report: Crystal Palace’s £6.7 million pursuit of Watford transfer dismissed as “Laughable”.

Crystal Palace is reportedly pursuing Watford forward Kwadwo Baah, with Africa Foot indicating that the Premier League club is preparing an offer of approximately £6.7 million for the 22-year-old. Palace has a history of successfully acquiring and developing wingers from Championship clubs into Premier League players.

Baah’s recent season with Watford marked his senior debut for the Hornets, following loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Burton Albion. Despite facing injuries, the winger has shown “incredibly promising” form when on the field.

Kwadwo Baah’s 2024/25 Championship statistics, according to Fotmob:

  • Games: 27
  • Starts: 16
  • Goals: 4
  • Assists: 3
  • Successful dribbles: 37
  • Fouls won: 27

Crystal Palace’s interest appears to be an attempt to sign Baah before his market value potentially increases further. However, FLW’s Watford fan pundit, Justin Beattie, has dismissed the reported offer price.

Beattie firmly rejected the notion that Watford would accept a £6.7 million bid for Kwadwo Baah this summer. “I can’t imagine for one second that Watford would be willing to sell him for £6.7 million,” he stated. Beattie described Baah as “an extraordinary, exciting talent,” noting that despite a season impacted by suspension and injury, “he looked the most likely to get a goal.” He added, “I would very much expect him to be a part of Watford’s plans for next season, if not longer, and a £6.7 million price tag is laughable really.”

Beattie believes Baah possesses the potential to play in the Premier League in the future but suggests he is not yet ready for that step. He expressed high hopes for Baah’s continued development at Vicarage Road, stating, “He is a Premier League player in the making, but I don’t think he’s ready to go there just yet and certainly not for a fee that small.”

Watford reportedly acquired Kwadwo Baah for a “six-figure fee” from Rochdale in the summer of 2021, prior to their 2021/22 Premier League season, indicating the club’s long-standing high expectations for the German-born winger. Since their relegation, Watford has remained in the Championship’s mid-table, and there is a perception that players with Premier League quality may eventually seek moves elsewhere.

Watford supporters will hope that Baah, who was limited to 27 Championship appearances last season due to a thigh injury (and only two appearances in the last 18 games), can increase his output in the upcoming campaign. If his Premier League potential is realized, he could play a significant role in Watford’s efforts to return to the top flight. Baah’s contract with Watford expires in the summer of 2029, placing the club under no immediate pressure to sell.
