Ferguson name Celtic player he’d want to see at Rangers next season, as 49ers takeover nears completion

Few players have been bold enough to cross the Rangers-Celtic divide in recent years.

Ferguson names Celtic player he'd reluctantly like to see at Rangers next season

Kenny Miller, Mo Johnston, and Steven Pressley are examples of players who have done just that, albeit no player has yet moved directly from one team to another.

Rangers have recently been linked with bringing in Greg Taylor once his Celtic contract ends in the summer, in what would be a “headline-catching” deal.

That is certainly one to keep an eye on as the summer transfer window approaches, but the clubs are unlikely to conduct any direct business.

Daizen Maeda a stand-out player for Celtic

Amid the current Taylor to Ibrox talk, Ibrox News asked player-turned-pundit Derek Ferguson which Celtic player he would like to see at Rangers.

Ferguson reluctantly admitted that if forced to select, there was only one standout contender.

“They’ve got a strong squad, of course they have,” he said. “Maeda stands out and he’s been brilliant, plus he’s able to play different positions.

So if I was pushed I’d lead towards him. He’s also got the energy and the attitude that rubs off on other players, so he’d be the one player you’d look at say ‘I’d take him’.

Ranger and Celtic unlikely to ever conduct transfer business

Even in the case of Taylor, that is a deal that Celtic are powerless to prevent if the player opts to leave. The Scotsman will be a free agent and is therefore able to negotiate with any interested clubs freely.

In terms of direct business, however, do no expect Rangers and Celtic to ever sit around the negotiating table.

It’s virtually an unwritten law that if you play for one, you can’t play for the other, but as previously stated, some have been courageous enough to do so.

Rangers will undoubtedly need to buy a few new players this summer, but their search will be much broader than Glasgow’s.
