“St Mirren would beat Manchester United comfortably”, Chris Sutton hits out at Ferdinand’s Scottish football dig following Rangers’ match against Manchester United

Chris Sutton was upset after Rio Ferdinand stated Bruno Fernandes will have it easy in the Scottish Premiership after Manchester United defeated Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday.

After the Red Devils defeated the Glasgow giants in the UEFA Europa League on January 23, former Chelsea star Jody Morris asked Ferdinand if his former club will finish in the top three in the Premier League.

The United legend, who was enraged after Matthijs de Ligt’s goal was disallowed, responded with a funny remark, predicting that Fernandes would score 112 goals in Scotland’s top division.

“Bruno [Fernandes] would score 112 goals a season up there”, Ferdinand wrote on X (23 January).

Sutton immediately fired out at the former defender, claiming that Manchester United would struggle to beat St. Mirren.

“St Mirren would beat Manchester United comfortably”, Sutton replied.

Rangers walk away from Manchester United with pride

As a former Celtic player, Sutton has a history of criticizing Rangers if things don’t go their way.

Even he would have been happy of Philippe Clement and his team’s performance at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Light Blues held their own against the Premier League giants for the most part, losing only to a Jack Butland own goal in the second half.

It would have been a night of celebration for Gers fans in Manchester if Fernandes hadn’t scored so late.

Rangers managed to quiet the Old Trafford fans for a few minutes after Cyriel Dessers scored a late equaliser.

It was painful to watch United retake the lead after Dessers equalised for the visitors.

Nonetheless, Rangers can be proud of their performance, which represents Scottish football well.
