Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly a target for Liverpool, a move that could financially benefit Celtic.
The German club is expected to demand around £36 million for the wing-back this summer. Due to a sell-on clause negotiated when Frimpong transferred from Celtic in January 2021, the Scottish club is entitled to 30% of the profit from this potential sale, which could amount to approximately £6.7 million. This influx of funds would provide a significant boost to Brendan Rodgers’ transfer budget for the upcoming summer window.
Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong has reportedly intensified following news that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, is said to be a keen admirer of his fellow Dutchman.
Sources indicate that Slot has already engaged in discussions with Frimpong regarding a possible move to Anfield, increasing the likelihood of the transfer. The defender has been consistently linked with Liverpool over the past year.

Journalist Christian Falk of BILD has provided an update, stating that Liverpool’s interest in securing Frimpong’s signature this summer is serious.
Falk reported: “Jeremie Frimpong and Arne Slot were on the phone a lot last month. Both are Dutch, and Slot wanted to sign him in the summer. The Liverpool head coach had been telling the full-back he was still keen to get him.”
This development is seen as positive news for Celtic, as Brendan Rodgers aims to strengthen his squad for the next season, particularly in preparation for the Champions League. The potential financial gain from Frimpong’s transfer could enable the club to bring in one or two additional players.
Nearly four and a half years after his departure from Celtic, Jeremie Frimpong could once again contribute to the club’s success, this time through a transfer fee. The Dutch international has evolved into a highly regarded wing-back in European football, delivering impressive performances in the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso. He played a crucial role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic undefeated Bundesliga title win and their DFB-Pokal victory in the past season.
While Frimpong’s move to Liverpool is not yet confirmed, he is reportedly a top priority for Arne Slot as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold. Given Slot’s successful first season at Liverpool, which included winning the Premier League, he is expected to receive substantial backing in the transfer market to strengthen the squad as he sees fit.
