Following the Commanders’ implosion, the Detroit Lions are receiving more terrible news, which might affect the franchise for years to come.

Dallas Cowboys Could Snag a Detroit Lions Favorite

The Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are among the most sought-after candidates for head coaching openings next season. Johnson and Glenn have been critical components of the Lions’ development, so losing both coordinators could have long-term consequences for the team. Some NFL analysts and experts believe that both coordinators could be hired by other teams during the summer.

Glenn’s tally now includes one additional team. Some NFL experts believe Glenn will include the Dallas Cowboys on his interview list.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Dallas has interest in Glenn to replace former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

“I was also told that they’re intrigued by Aaron Glenn,” Fowler said of ESPN over the weekend, also stating that “they would like to speak with him.”

NFL insider Jordan Schultz agreed, stating that “Glenn is a name to watch closely as the Cowboys continue their search for a new head coach into next week.”

Glenn is no stranger to the Cowboys organization. He actually played for the Cowboys for two seasons from 2005 to 2006 and is buddies with former head coach Bill Parcells.

It would be difficult for Lions fans to watch Glenn end up with one of the team’s main NFC rivals.

In addition to the Cowboys, the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints are rumored to be very interested in signing Glenn. It might feel less if Glenn chose the Jets or Saints over the Cowboys, but it would still hurt.

Ben Johnson Head Coaching Opportunities

Johnson has also been linked to a number of head coaching positions, the most common of which being with the Chicago Bears and the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chicago Bears have “significant interest” in hiring Johnson as their new head coach. According to Rapoport, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is also a strong contender.

“As one source with knowledge of the situation explains it, the effort remains squarely in ‘phase one,’” Florio added in a January 18 feature.

Now that the Lions are out of the playoffs, Glenn and Johnson will be free to conduct in-person or virtual interviews as they see fit. According to NFL regulations, they can begin interviewing after the Divisional Round of the playoffs, which is Monday, January 20.

Whatever happens to Glenn and Campbell, Lions head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes will be around for the foreseeable future, so keep your chin up, Lions fans.
