Todd Cantwell may no longer be with the Rangers, but he is still generating a stir among fans.
The English midfielder joined Blackburn Rovers during the summer transfer window, ending his 19-month stay at Ibrox.
Cantwell continues to remark on the Gers on social media, most notably commenting to Rangers’ Old Firm win against Celtic on Sunday (16 March).
However, a recent comment made by the 27-year-old has put him in trouble with former Rangers star Derek Ferguson.
Cantwell speaks out on Philippe Clement sack at Rangers
Cantwell disagreed with previous Rangers manager Clement, who was fired less than a month ago.
Despite now being at Blackburn, Cantwell was quick to respond to Clement’s dismissal, posting a barely veiled jab at the Belgian on social media.
Cantwell posted an image of a song called “Taliban” on Instagram, along with the caption: “Sun’s out… so is our tune.”

The midfielder also tagged James Tavernier in the tweet, which was interpreted as an unwarranted dig at Clement in the aftermath of his firing.
Asked about that message from Cantwell, Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News: “That’s poor stuff. That really annoys me. A player going on social media and posting stuff like that. Say it to [Clement’s] face.
“The one thing for me, Clement gave his all but wasn’t good enough. We don’t like seeing people lose their jobs, but he wasn’t cutting it.
“Then Cantwell has a cheap shot at him. It’s garbage, absolute crap. I hate it when you see people taking cheap shots at others.
“Clement gave his best. The Rangers fans will appreciate he gave it his all. I hate that from Cantwell. He needs to concentrate on performing for his new club and keeping his mouth shut.”
Cantwell failing to fire at Blackburn Rovers
Cantwell is seven months into his spell at Blackburn and has only five goals in 30 Championship outings.
He has started 21 of those, with the remaining nine coming off the bench, including a nine-minute cameo against struggling Cardiff City at home last time out.
As Ferguson explains, it’s best if Cantwell concentrates on his form at Blackburn rather than the happenings at Rangers.
