What Jamie Carragher said about Eddie Howe being Everton manager is mind-blowing, as Wayne Rooney throws a jab at Liverpool following Newcastle United’s final loss

Everton fans may be rueing this wasted opportunity in light of Eddie Howe’s recent success with Newcastle United.

Everton fans will dream of success like Newcastle’s league cup victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Toon Army waited 70 years, and David Moyes expects to do the same with Everton in the coming years.

Everything points to this happening, with Moyes claiming that Everton has a strong team spirit.

However, the Toffees could have been in Newcastle’s shoes already, with Howe linked to Goodison Park in 2019, with Jamie Carragher having strong words about his potential hiring.

Liverpool: Carragher reveals his key concern with penalty loss vs PSG with 'one thing' he 'couldn't work out'

It’s unthinkable that Everton will be anywhere near winning a trophy, as Moyes attempts to end their 30-year drought.

The 1995 FA Cup victory is still remembered by supporters, and despite Moyes’ transformation of Everton players like as Jake O’Brien, there is still more work to be done.

Given Howe’s success, Everton may have hired the English manager in 2019, as Farhad Moshiri may have lost an opportunity.

According to Sky Sports in 2019, Moyes was also in the running for a return to Everton earlier than expected, with Marco Silva’s job under jeopardy.

Carragher expressed his emotions about Howe’s appointment, which makes for strange reading after claiming Howe was the’real deal’ to Sky following Newcastle’s victory.

Carragher stated on Monday Night Football during the 2019/20 season: “I have Everton fans in my family, and every candidate they’ve suggested, they’ve also said they don’t want them.

“Moyes to come back in almost a Sam Allardyce role – they are so against that you wouldn’t believe. Personally, I can’t believe that, considering the job he did.

“It’s like they are judging Moyes on what he’s done since Everton. They don’t want Eddie Howe. There’s talk of Mark Hughes.”

The Friedkin Group’s signings must be smart at Everton like Howe’s Newcastle

Of course, Newcastle will be extremely wealthy upon their takeover in 2021, but this leaves no excuse for The Friedkin Group.

It was stated that the Friedkins want to save money for Everton’s summer, as the owners and Moyes appear to be working closely together to devise the ideal transfer strategy.

However, Everton should view Howe’s efforts with Newcastle’s owners in the same way.

Moshiri had the opportunity to overspend at Everton, and Newcastle could have done the same, but they chose to stick with a squad that has worked well and led to significant success.

Signings like Dan Burn, Valentino Livramento, and Bruno Guimaraes should be exactly what Moyes is looking for, without spending a lot of money.

Moyes and the Toffees have a bright future ahead of them, but if Howe had arrived, their excitement would have reached new heights.

Wayne Rooney put salt into Liverpool’s wound following a difficult week.

The Reds were eliminated from the Champions League following a penalty shootout loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16. Then, in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium, Newcastle United defeated Arne Slot’s side 2-1. Liverpool were second-best throughout the game, and the Magpies deserved to break their 70-year drought of trophies.

Slot’s men are poised to win the Premier League. They have a 12-point lead at the top of the table with nine matches remaining. But boyhood Everton fan and former Manchester United captain Rooney couldn’t help but be pleased with Liverpool’s latest defeat. Speaking on Match of the Day 2, he smirked and added, “I sure enjoyed it! I was at the PSG game in midweek and definitely saw the Newcastle game today.

“But Newcastle deserved it, I thought they were excellent they showed a lot of desire, fight, courage to take the ball, they could’ve won by a lot more. Liverpool just didn’t seem themselves.”

Alan Shearer, a fellow pundit, was in the Wembley Stadium stands to witness his boyhood club Newcastle play the Carabao Cup Final. Dan Burn put the Magpies ahead with a powerful header in the 44th minute, and Alexander Isak extended the lead shortly after halftime.

While Shearer has been impressed by Liverpool in the Premier League, he believes Newcastle deserved to win. He wrote about X: “I know I’m p***** but ……. Liverpool are a great club and will win the league and have been brilliant this season but the Geordies absolutely smashed them today and deserved it.”

Slot lost out on his first piece of silverware as Liverpool manager. The Reds started last week with the chance of winning three trophies, but the Premier League title will be the only one added to the Anfield cabinet.
