Gamecocks Hit with Roster Shake-Up as Two In-State Players Enter Transfer Portal

South Carolina Men’s Basketball Faces Offseason Exodus

The South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball program is experiencing a roster shake-up as junior guard Zachary Davis and sophomore guard Arden Conyers plan to enter the transfer portal, sources confirmed Friday.

The departures come just one day after sophomore guard Austin Herro announced he was leaving the program, marking a notable shift in South Carolina’s roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Davis’ Departure a Significant Loss

Davis, a 6-foot-7 guard and former Class A Player of the Year at Denmark-Olar High, was a key contributor for South Carolina this past season. Over three years, he appeared in 95 games, including 32 this season, and was a regular starter in 19 games for the 2024-25 campaign.

This past season, Davis averaged 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, providing valuable scoring and defensive presence. His best performance came in January against Florida, when he dropped a career-high 22 points.

Conyers Exits After Redshirt Season

Conyers, a former three-star recruit from Westwood High, initially redshirted his first season but saw a larger role in 2024-25. He played in 23 games, averaging 4.3 points per game, and had four double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 13 points against Auburn.

Despite previously indicating he planned to return, Conyers confirmed his transfer decision on Friday.

More Changes Ahead?

The NCAA transfer portal officially opens Monday, allowing non-graduate players to officially enter and explore new opportunities. With three players already set to leave, head coach Lamont Paris may need to rework his roster ahead of next season.

The Gamecocks, who won 21 games this past season, will now have to navigate both roster losses and new additions as they look to build on their recent success in the SEC.
