Chris Jack gives an update on Stewart and Thornton leaving Rangers.

Chris Jack has delivered a key update on the futures of Rangers chairman Fraser Thornton and chief executive Patrick Stewart amid the ongoing San Francisco 49ers takeover.

With the 49ers Enterprise group pushing to secure a majority stake at Ibrox in the coming weeks, many have wondered if a change in leadership would follow suit. However, Jack confirmed that while new faces are expected to enter the club, both Thornton and Stewart are not set to be moved on in the immediate aftermath of the regime change.

Speaking on Four Lads Had a Dream’s YouTube channel at the 18:54 mark, Jack explained:

“We do expect Fraser Thornton, the chairman, and Patrick Stewart, the chief exec, certainly to stay on and in the immediate aftermath of regime change.”

Both men are only a few months into their respective roles and were appointed before any formal takeover developments had surfaced, signalling they were part of the current board’s vision—not that of the incoming ownership. But despite not being handpicked by the 49ers, their performance will now be scrutinised under a new lens.

The incoming owners will expect strategic alignment, financial responsibility, and on-field competitiveness as part of their vision for modernising and strengthening Rangers as both a football and commercial brand.

Thornton, as chairman, will need to ensure stability at board level while spearheading stakeholder relations and guiding long-term planning. Stewart will be expected to drive operational excellence, maximise revenue streams, and support footballing ambitions in a sustainable fashion.

While continuity offers much-needed stability during a pivotal moment in Rangers’ future, failure to meet expectations may result in eventual changes, should performance or strategy deviate from the 49ers’ broader objectives.

For now, though, both men look set to lead Rangers through the next phase—with the eyes of new ownership closely watching.
