Norwich City have announced that three first-team regulars — Angus Gunn, Onel Hernandez, and Jacob Sorensen — will leave the club following the conclusion of the Championship season.
The Canaries made their contract decisions public today, just days after the sacking of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, who had been involved in the discussions before his dismissal. Despite the managerial upheaval, City have confirmed that the trio will depart after Saturday’s final game against Cardiff City.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn, 29, will end his second spell with his boyhood club after five seasons, having made 170 appearances and kept 46 clean sheets. A fan favorite and the son of club legend Bryan Gunn, the Scottish international established himself as Norwich’s first-choice goalkeeper, overtaking Tim Krul and earning international honors during his time at Carrow Road. Despite his status, contract talks never materialized, leaving Gunn to seek a fresh opportunity this summer.

Winger Onel Hernandez will also bid farewell after eight years at Norwich. Signed from Eintracht Braunschweig in January 2018, Hernandez was a key figure in two Championship title-winning campaigns (2018/19 and 2020/21), making 209 appearances, scoring 15 goals, and providing 26 assists. Only Kenny McLean has served the club longer among the current squad.

Jacob Sorensen, 26, completes the list of frontline players exiting. The versatile Dane joined Norwich in 2020 and made 108 appearances, often filling in at left-back during Daniel Farke’s title-winning 2020/21 season. His time in Norfolk has been plagued by injuries, preventing him from fully establishing himself as a consistent starter.
Additionally, goalkeeper Archie Mair and defender Jonathan Tomkinson will also leave when their contracts expire. Tomkinson made three senior appearances and spent part of this season on loan at Ross County.
Norwich’s sporting director Ben Knapper paid tribute, saying:
“Angus, Onel and Jacob have all played a significant part in our club’s history. They have been part of some very successful teams and their achievements here have been fantastic.
I know our supporters will join me in showing our appreciation to each of the players during our final fixture against Cardiff City.
We all wish them the very best in the next steps of their respective careers. They will all be welcomed back at Carrow Road in the future.”
City supporters will have the opportunity to say their goodbyes at Carrow Road on Saturday, May 3, with further announcements on development squad changes and contract extensions to follow.
