This season, Jeffrey Schlupp had a successful brief stint wearing Celtic’s colours.
When they ended Alex Valle’s loan, Celtic supporters were expecting Kieran Tierney to return in the winter, so the 32-year-old’s January arrival came as a bit of a surprise.
However, Tierney will now return in July because Schlupp was signed on the day of the transfer deadline and was a starter under Brendan Rodgers almost immediately.
Something needed to happen because Greg Taylor was struggling, and Schlupp made it matter when Rodgers first thrust him into the public eye.
The Crystal Palace player who was on loan returned to the bench towards the end, including in Celtic’s loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
Schlupp talked about what it was like to play for Scotland’s most successful club, and it turned out to be his last bow in the green and white.
Schlupp on what it was like playing for Celtic against Rangers
Celtic and Rangers have the greatest rivalry in Europe and the entire world.
Schlupp was able to participate in two games, including the regrettable home loss to Barry Ferguson’s team.
Even though the first game ended in a loss, the soon-to-be free agent described what it felt like to play in a game of that importance.
On the derby games: “It was wicked,” added Schlupp.
“My first derby. We lost it. A great game for the neutral, I am sure. But that wasn’t too nice, but the atmosphere and everything around it was top class. I am just happy to be part of that.”
