Jeremie Frimpong has finalised his move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool on a “long-term contract”.
The right-back joins the Bundesliga club from Celtic in 2021.
The Parkhead club added a stipulation within the deal that guaranteed them 30% of any future profit produced by Leverkusen from Frimpong.
Given that they sold him to Liverpool for £33.7 million and purchased him for £11.5 million, Celtic will earn a pleasant £6.7 million, just in time for the summer transfer season.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com regarding the move, the quick full-back stated: “It went quite easily. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me, it was a no-brainer.
“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate, and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, and get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me, and I won’t let you guys down, and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
Frimpong moved to Glasgow’s east end from Manchester City’s academy in 2019. He rose to prominence under Neil Lennon, contributing to nine consecutive wins and a triple treble.
After four and a half years at the BayArena, where he won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, the Dutchman is moving to Anfield.
He joins Liverpool to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is heading to Real Madrid.
Arne Slot’s men are the defending English champions, and Frimpong joins them to boost their title defence ahead of next season. The 24-year-old will join his former Celtic defender and international teammate Virgil Van Dijk at Anfield.
