Glenn Middleton’s New Chapter After Dundee United Departure

Winger Glenn Middleton has officially joined League One club Doncaster Rovers, signing a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months. This move follows his decision to decline a contract extension from Scottish Premiership side Dundee United, bringing an end to his three-year tenure with the club.

Middleton, 25, who was born in Glasgow, began his youth career at Northampton Town before progressing through Norwich City’s academy. In 2018, he returned to Glasgow to sign a five-year deal with Rangers. During his time at Ibrox, he had loan spells with Hibernian, Bradford City, and St Johnstone.

He made a permanent move to Dundee United in 2022, where he accumulated 115 appearances and scored 12 goals across three seasons. Middleton has also represented Scotland at various youth levels, earning over 20 caps for the Under-21 squad.

In comments to doncasterroversfc.co.uk, Middleton expressed his eagerness to begin his new chapter. “I’m really excited and really happy to be here,” he stated. “It’s something I’ve been looking forward to over the last couple of weeks, and I’m just really glad it’s all come together.” He added, “When you speak to people, you get an understanding and belief in what they’re saying to you, and that was very clear from the manager’s first couple of calls. Once you get a feeling like that, it’s something you want to be part of.”

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann indicated his satisfaction with securing a long-term target. “I’ve been tracking Glenn for quite a while – even during my first spell here, he was a player we really liked,” McCann said. “I’m delighted to get him. He’s had a tremendous few years at Dundee United. He’s been a real threat in the Scottish Premiership and he’s an exciting player – really direct, quick, and able to play anywhere across the front line. He’s also a really good person, so I’m really pleased to bring him in.”
